It all began, as most stories do, a long time ago, way back in childhood. We can all remember eating ice cream as kids - and the memory is all the stronger when the ice cream was home-made.
That's how it started for me anyway.
Wherever I've travelled, I've always been on the lookout for great ice cream, the real stuff made with fresh ingredients and in flavours and combinations that I've never previously thought of. Green tea ice cream? I'll try it, why not? Durian ice cream? What's a durian? Never mind, I'll have a scoop. World's best chocolate ice cream? Definitely want some of that.
But for a long time, eating ice cream was just a hobby. It turned into the adventure of a lifetime when Charles and I decided we'd had enough of flying off in different directions on big company business and got serious about running our own company. We wanted to make something, and the thought of making something good to eat was irresistible. We both love ice cream, and we knew there were lots of people like us searching for that unforgettable scoop. The only thing to do was start an ice cream company.
We settled in Wiltshire to be near the cows, but fresh milk and cream is only half the story. The adventurous bit is the flavours - fruits and spices from around the world. Where can you find the best mangoes? What about ginger? Or cardamom?
Most of my flavour inspirations come from the tropics, which is where, if you wander off the crowded beach in search of a cool breeze and less-trampled ground, you may be lucky enough to find a hill station. Charles and I found one in Malaysia, and I guess it changed our lives. It was a long way but eventually it led to our own Hill Station. There's plenty there for you to enjoy too.
